I graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1992. I began my teaching career at Anniston Middle School where I taught 6th grade Language for four years. While at Anniston Middle School I received my Masters degree from the University of Alabama (only because I could not drive to the Auburn campus, WAR EAGLE!!!!!) and my Special Education degree from Jacksonville State University. I then taught Special Education at Saks High School for one year. In 1998, I transferred to Weaver Elementary to teach Special Education to grades 2 through 4. I received my degree in School Counseling in 2002. I then became the school counselor here at Weaver Elementary. While in this position I have continued my education by receiving my Ed, S. in school counseling. In 2007, I went through the process and received my National Board Certification. I am married and have no children. However, I do have 7 great nieces and nephews that I adore. In my spare time I enjoy jet skiing/boating in the summer and riding my Harley motorcycle any time it is not too cold. I am a member of the First Baptist Church of Saks where I interpret for the deaf.
Resources of Interest: Big Brother/Big Sisters of Calhoun County This is a great mentoring program for children. We have the on-site program where the high school students come to our school once a week to mentor some of our students. There is also a community based program that takes place outside of the school setting. If you are interested in this, you can contact me and I will get the information to you.
Family Links This program reinforces a drug-free lifestyle and other healthy behaviors among youth. Services are available for students who are at-risk and their families. For more information you can call me or call 820-5911 to reach someone at Family Links.
This organization helps needy families at Christmas. Be sure you contact them if you feel you will need assistance at Christmas time. Resources are limited and the deadline for applications is September 2009.
Upcoming Events Red Ribbon Week During the month of October, I will be conducting lessons for the students on Drug Awareness and the harmful affects of drugs. They will be watching DVDs and participating in activities to help them focus on living a drug free life. During Red Ribbon Week, we will have a theme for each day and the students will be allowed to “dress up” for that day.
Christmas Parade Look for our Christmas float in the Weaver Christmas Parade on December 5, 2009.
