“Together we CAN make a difference!”

I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there.

The clay they used was a young child’s mind. One was a teacher- the tools she used were books, music, and art. The other, a parent, worked with a guiding hand and a gentle loving heart. Day after day the teacher toiled with a touch that was deft and sure, while the parent labored by her side and polished and smoothed it o’er. And when at last their task was done, they were proud of what they’d wrought. For the things they had molded into the child could neither be sold nor bought. And each agreed they would have failed if each had worked alone for behind the parent stood the school and behind the teacher the home.            -Author Unknown

What is the PTO?

We are parents, grandparents, educators, and administrators working collectively toward the same goal- to provide our children with the very best education possible, to instill in them a lifelong love of learning, and to equip them with the tools they need to excel in life. Alexandria Elementary is building an active PTO to support our classrooms and enrich our children’s educational experience. Fundraising plays an extremely important role in allowing the PTO to accomplish its goal of educational support. We have several new and exciting ideas in the works and are always open to suggestions and input from our parents.

Why should you be involved with the PTO?

Research shows again and again that strong parental involvement is one of the most significant factors in a child’s educational success!

Involvement in the PTO allows you to:

Meet and befriend other parents

Share advice and ideas with other parents.

Be up-to-date with what’s going on at our school

Show your children that you value their school and their education

To see a listing of current areas of involvement with the PTO, please check “How can I get involved”. How can I get involved?

Whether  you’d like to help a little or a lot, the PTO NEEDS YOU! It’s fun, it’s free, it’s informative, and you can develop some great friendships with other parents- not to mention it’s an awesome investment in our children and their education! Here are just some of the ways that you can get involved:

Volunteer- Whether you’d like to really get involved and help several times throughout the year, or even if you just want to help once or twice, there is a spot for you! At various times throughout the year- especially during our big fundraiser events- we need volunteers to help with things like collecting order forms, distributing items to the classrooms, helping to direct traffic on the first day of school, or at Fall Festival, working a shift at a booth selling t-shirts, etc. These are generally short periods ranging anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours, and any time that you can contribute is GREATLY appreciated. The more hands we have helping, the less time for everyone. This is a great way for parents or even grandparents to get involved! Consider becoming a volunteer today!

Volunteer Coordinator- Even if you’re not available to come to the school you can still be involved! We need help lining up volunteers during fundraiser time and for other things, so if you can make phone calls and coordinate helpers from our list of volunteers, we need you!

Fundraiser- Fundraising is an extremely important part of the PTO. Our Fall and Spring fundraiser events generate the majority of the funds raised by the PTO. This money helps us to reach our goal of providing support for our children’s school and helping them to have the absolute best educational experience possible.  Your support of our fundraiser efforts is one of the greatest ways to get involved! Some parents have expressed a desire to simply make a donation to the PTO in lieu of having their children participate in sales events. These donations are always welcome!!

Officer- Want to dive in full-time and really make a difference? Consider becoming a PTO Officer for the upcoming school year.

Get involved with the PTO today! Remember, together we can make a difference!
