Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must hold valid Alabama CDL License
- School bus routing experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups
- Effective communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and delegate
- Excellent ability to work with others
- Good attendance and work record
- Meet background clearance requirements
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calhoun County Board of Education deems appropriate
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Advertise and recruit drivers
- Assist with interviews for employment of transportation personnel
- Assign, monitor, and resolve issues with fuel cards
- Supervise transportation employees as directed by the Transportation Director when needed
- Schedule and plan in-service programs for transportation employees
- Collaborate with administrators on transportation issues
- Complete all state and local reports as required
- Attend board work sessions and board meetings in the absence of the Transportation Director
- Review overall transportation services and offer recommendations
- Maintain an active list of sub drivers
- Secure subs for bus drivers
- Inform schools of bus changes due to driver absences
- Drive routes as needed
- Work as assigned when a bus is involved in an accident
- Work as assigned when our system is responding to emergency situations such as weather
- Adjust daily or weekly schedule to respond to the issues of transportation
- Interact with department staff to promote the goals of the Transportation Department
- Make all assignments of drivers and/or aides to routes
- Collaborate with system Special Education Director regarding student needs during transport
- Maintain documentation on all Special Needs Routes
- Review regular routes experiencing problems with overcrowding, length of route, times, etc. making adjustments as needed
- Keep appropriate records related to routes as identified by the Transportation Director
- Keep the Transportation Director informed of any issues of concern
- Ability to keep school matters confidential
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, including clear, polite telephone communications skills.
- Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and initiative in dealing with the transportation staff, students, teachers, directors and the public.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
- Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees.
- Be familiar with and follow Calhoun County Board of Education policies.
- Reports directly to the Transportation Director
- Other duties as assigned
Length of Contract/Terms: 240 days / 8 hours daily
Compensation: As per Board salary schedule for this position
