Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Alabama Driver's License
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
  • Experience in general building maintenance (including but not limited to: Carpentry, Equipment Operator, Flooring, Welding, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Painting, Construction, Locksmithing)
  • Knowledge of basic building and construction trades such as Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, HVAC, Masonry, Painting, etc.
  • Ability to learn required methods and practices of assigned maintenance and crafts work.
  • Ability to safely operate and use tools and equipment
  • Demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Exercise good judgment and caution in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to perform routine preventive and maintenance repair work minimum supervision.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting items up to 100 lbs. as well as crawling, stooping, bending, climbing, working from ladders and roof tops.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively around children.
  • Excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character
  • Must have good attendance and work record in previous employment.
  • Ability to work alongside others as an effective team member.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Perform only those maintenance and repairs that do not require a license, or perform maintenance and repairs under the direct supervision of a licensed technician.
  • Ensure that the work site and conditions are safe.
  • Perform assignments relating to ensuring all schools and system sites are able to safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operations.
  • Perform regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.
  • Respond to emergency situations and perform necessary repairs.
  • Use the work order system, making sure that work orders have been written and approved before performing tasks, except in emergency situations.
  • Keep a log of all maintenance functions and repairs performed.
  • Recommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, or experience, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor.
  • Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations and laws are observed and exceeded.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of parts and supplies frequently used in repairs, and request needed supplies through the established procedures.
  • Operate tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintain the condition of all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
  • Report immediately any damage or vandalism to facilities, or theft of equipment.
  • Make recommendations to the Director for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the maintenance operations of the district.
  • Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
  • Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Follow all Policies and Procedures of the Calhoun County Board of Education and the Maintenance Department.
  • Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Length of Contract/Terms:
240 days / 8 hours daily
